Humans make mistakes, but they are not limited to racially-limited and biased data models, can show compassion to learners with disabilities, and can tell the difference between a portrait and a living person.
In response to the question “Will Proctorio ever obtain or give out my personal information?" states "Never. Proctorio does not and cannot collect any unencrypted personally identifying information on any user, so there's nothing to give to third parties.”
However, Proctorio also states that they will monitor learners via “webcam, microphone, browser, desktop”⁵ and “at the discretion of the exam administrator also scan the learners “surroundings and computer display,” and “The information from the session may be recorded and provided to the institution, university, college, school, or organization and can be viewed by authorized personnel thereof.”
Never shares photo identification. As an intermediary, we ensure learner privacy is protected and organizations don’t bear the privacy protection requirements of this information.
By design, Integrity Advocate restricts viewing of captured session media to our reviewers and provides only still images to clients where they relate to a potential violation.
To use Proctorio, learners need to “install a compatible browser… then install the Proctorio extension.”
Users are not required to download or install any extension, plug-in, or program.
Proctorio “will retain your data for six months by active data retention and for one year by cold storage” and “according to the Institution's preference regarding data destruction, Proctorio will either: 1) destroy the data, or 2) deliver it to the Institution.”
Also states that they may transfer your information (including personal information) to their “facilities in the United States or elsewhere”⁷
Proctorio adheres “to the EU-US Privacy Shield Framework.” Note that on July 16, 2020, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) invalidated the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield.
Deletes learner ID and all media not flagged to support a violation within 24 hours and the remainder of data at 24 months (unless requested sooner by learner or utilizing organization).
All data is my default stored in Canada but can be stored contractually in specific data safe zones.
